PARUL BALIYAN
I belong to India, a place which defines me as a person and as an artist. Based in West London, UK, I made London my home more than a decade back. I grew up in a small town in northern India. Most of my childhood memories reflect the countryside, cultural and traditional fusion of simplicity and diversity. I had been a science student throughout my academic life and got the opportunities to live in different countries like US and UK for my work in IT and finance. During my stay in the United States, I found a small opportunity to study Art at Art Instruction Schools Minneapolis USA. With no other art studies, I can say that I am primarily a self-taught artist.
As far as I can remember, I have had the wonder for colours and creativity and finally decided to put my artwork out for a wider audience.
Along with the beautiful landscapes of the countryside and history that is seeped in London have inspired me to colour my canvas and my life, my work is also influenced by being Indian and an avid traveller. I emulate the diversity of various cultures and heritage through my artworks. The colourful land of Rajasthan is my favourite subject which I would like to work more on.
Whilst I proudly display my cultural heritage, I also embrace social diversity which is strongly portrayed in my work. Vibrant colours add spice to my expressive paintings based on the traditional and contemporary fusion of spiritual mindfulness, reflecting the richness of my subjects.
BELONGINGNESS is the key element of my work. I get my inspiration from people and their way of living, and their belonging in the environment.
I started with watercolour as my very first medium so that is my favourite but I enjoy the vividness of acrylics equally. A combination of warm colours, complimented with blues is clearly reflected in my work. While I would confidently choose these mediums, I love to experiment and explore new ones as well. Very special artwork and a recent new embarkment is a portrait of my dad which is my pride. It has been done in oil colour with unlimited love and care.
I got my creative vision from my father and hard work and dedication from my mother. I am a mother of two beautiful girls who share my love of art with me. My husband stands by my side and keeps reminding me that do not give up hope on doing what you love.
I am a TEA person. A cup of tea sets the environment for me to paint, to grow, to be a friend and to find a friend. A cup of tea makes most situations better and sometimes my paintbrushes are known to have found their way in my tea mugs instead!
